Lieutenant Commander Amiya Patra has served the nation for 10 years as an Officer in Naval Marine & Aviation. He pioneered the induction and operation of Advanced Light Helicopter into Navy. He is the first officer in armed forces to conceptualize and produce a documentary film on “flight safety” which is still being used as the promotional movie in naval aviation and Indian Air Force. He has contributed immensely in the training and development of technical workforce and designed innovative methodology for On Job Training (OJT).

On his voluntary retirement from the Navy and completion of business management course in IIM,Indore, he explored the world of possibilities as a freelancer consultant for startups like “Tennis India” magazine and “Cromatica Lifestyle” modular kitchen. For last two years he has been working as defense consultant for an Indian MNC. He has steered the customization of the command and control software to provide a collaborative platform to law enforcement agencies to obviate 26/11 attack like scenario. Recently he has delved into the concept of “Unlearning” and developed a workshop curriculum for the working professionals who are either switching their domain or finding it difficult to adjust to the changing technological developments. He has conducted the similar workshop for Indian Navy and Indian Army officers who are planning to start their second career post retirement. Other Indian firms (TCS & Glocal Healthcare) and Ansel Holdings from Australia have also expressed their interest in his other workshops on modern leadership theories and innovations in change management. All his training sessions and workshops are designed to inculcate an environment for learning among the participants. He practices the experiential learning pedagogy to make learning fun through the examples from real life, cinema and stories.

He started a venture (http://www.penguinevp.com) to provide entrepreneurship platform to students and working professionals in India in association with Federation of Indian Export Organization. His experience of Navy and corporate world is a unique blend of leadership and business acumen. He is a visionary who challenges conventional management theories in management and believes in people driven organizational growth. He’s working with an NGO (Mandar and No More) for drowning prevention campaign in India.

As a speaker, he is delivering his first TEDxGateway talk this month in Mumbai. Before this he has been called as a speaker to few other prestigious platforms like “Next Think Tank” and Ravindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai.

Apart from this, he is also a writer and film maker by passion. He has many short films, promotional video and documentaries to his credit; out of which many were screened in International Film Festivals in India and abroad. One of his short films has been selected for the “Save the Girl Child” campaign.  His short film, Deal Done based on dowry system in India has more than 2.5 M views on YouTube.
